Vienna Writers 2012 Retreat
The first ever Vienna Writers Retreat was held over five days in May, in the picturesque village of St. Wolfgang (Upper Austria), at the Wolfgangsee.
Despite the idyllic surrounds, it was a productive time for all: Numerous short stories and novel chapters were written; there were several readings and plenty of audience feedback; a few of us were pleased enough with our stories that we submitted them to the Bridport Prize competition.
We also discussed an upcoming project–the first Vienna Writers short story collection, and what that might entail. We came up with a few great (and now, Top Secret) ideas.
To break from the writing, we explored the lakeside and St. Wolfgang, with its various restaurants and cafes and local “Wirtshaus” type establishments. We all thought that the cuisine was as agreeable as the location, and that it doesn’t hurt to indulge in oneself every now and then.
So now there is talk of a Vienna Writers Winter Retreat. We’ll keep you posted!
